Parasport

Parasport
Parasport is a joint initiative between the British Paralympic Association (BPA) and the professional services firm Deloitte.

Parasport aims to make it easier for members of the public to take up disability sport by providing information about sports and sporting opportunities in local areas.

Parasport is for everyone, regardless of whether you want to participate recreationally or competitively. Maybe you want to take up a sport in order to get active, or maybe you have ambitions of representing Great Britain… Whatever your aim, Parasport can help you find a local club so that you can get involved.

Why is Parasport needed?
The site was created as a result of a recognition within the BPA that more could be done to support disabled people who wanted to take up sport, either at a recreational or competitive level.

Phil Lane, Chief Executive of the BPA said in 2007: “At grass roots level there is a need to create opportunities for those embarking on their first steps to sporting achievement, we also need to help those with talent who want to progress to a higher level of performance. Deloitte’s investment will enable us to do just that”.

With the investment and backing of Deloitte, Parasport is now providing the support and information required to those looking to take the next steps towards a more active life.

In the future we hope that Parasport will have introduced both recreational and competitive sporting opportunities to many disabled people, and potentially even to provide a springboard into sport for a new generation of Paralympians.

Future Paralympians

The big obstacle to future success in Paralympic sport is the strength of grassroots involvement and the number of people playing sport at community level. Deloitte Parasport was created to provide a clearer pathway towards elite sport for those people with ambitions of representing Britain at a Paralympic Games.

Parasport is now building a larger community of active participants in disability sport across all disciplines and through this will provide an important pipeline to find the next generation of Paralympians.

Sport for all

Whilst Parasport is run by the BPA, the organisation responsible for the British Paralympic team, it’s important to remember that Parasport is a tool that can be used by everyone, not just those who have ambitions of one day competing at a Paralympic Games.

We want to encourage as many people as possible to take up sport, and we are confident that Parasport can help you.
