You too eh Well this is how I overcame my problems

I am both a wheelchair and electric scooter/buggy user and for a couple of years was having all sorts of problems with punctures. Not such a big problem if your hands work but if not a small puncture becomes a reel pain.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been out on my scooter and suffered a flat. If close to home I have just continued running on the flat tyre which has invariably needed replacing, failing that I’m looking at a full blown recovery, expensive if your not insured for it and even if you are a real disruption to your daily routine.

I was then told by an ex forces contact, that the armed services make use of tyre sealants. If like me you wonder what they are they are a rubber type solution squirted into the tyre/inner tube, which seal any punctures before they become a problem.

A quick search on the Internet will yield several suppliers but I found the cheapest to be via the QVCUK shopping channel, a product called ‘Super Guard’ at under £20 including post and packaging

The sealant comes in a squeezey plastic bottle with an extendable plastic tube and a small tool to remove the centre of the valve.

The tyre has to be deflated and the centre of the valve unscrewed. The extendable plastic tube attached to the valve stem and a specified quantity of the thick white liquid injected into the tyre.

Unfortunately it’s not quite as easy as it sounds. Still with a bit of perseverance and soon the liquid is sloshing about in your tyre/inner tube.

After that simply replace the valve centre, re-inflate the tyre, slosh the liquid about and it’s all done.

The good news is that since using this product (the last 10 months) I haven’t suffered a puncture. The bad news is that to install requires help if your hands aren’t too good and probably a spare afternoon.

For those people who drive it is also advertised for use in car and van tyres also although I have a wife to change the tyres in the event of a car tyre puncture so haven’t tried it for this purpose!!!!

All in all I rate it as being well worth £20.
